Last Saturday, with a friend’s recommendation, we headed to Ramos House Cafe in the historic town of San Juan Capistrano for brunch. Ramos House was built in 1881 as a private residence. It wasn’t until October, 1994, when the current owner/chef, John Q. Humphreys, converted it into a cafe. It’s located right next to the Amtrak station. All seating are in the patio, where you can catch the occasional Amtrak train passing by.
On the weekend, Ramos House serves a Southern style prix fixe brunch menu for $40 per person, which includes a drink, an appetizer plate, and a main plate.
We ordered fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, Apple Cinnamon Beignets and Basil Cured Salmon Lox for starters, and Crab Hash and Spicy Crab Cake Salad for main dish. The food was amazing and the portion was generous. We were stuffed. If you’re not too hungry we would recommend trading the starter plate for a mimosa or another drink.
If you are in South Orange County for brunch, definitely check out Ramos House Cafe. Its wonderful food and rustic charm will make you and your tummy happy.
