Multnomah Falls – Portland, Oregon December 2015

After breakfast (or lunch), it was enroute to see Multnomah Falls, Oregon’s tallest waterfall.

Taking a 45 minutes scenic drive from downtown Portland, you’ll pass Bridal Veil and several other smaller falls.

Once you reach Multnomah Falls, parking is abundant. After snapping a couple photos, we proceeded to the top of the falls.

Had it been a sun-shining day, this 2 mile hike would have been a breeze. However, with the rain and recent snow creating a very icy path, this hike took us about 1.5 hour round trip.

We were unprepared for this hike, as we had on running shoes, but decided to go for it anyway. After 20 mins of fighting with the icy snow, we found that walking sideways gave us a better grip. When we neared the top, we spoke to some hikers with hiking boots on who decided to go back down because the road was getting too slippery. So if you will be hiking up in similar weather, I do suggest that you wear hiking shoes with spikes suitable for the ice. The panoramic view up was beautiful.

When we arrived to the top, the viewpoint allowed us to see the top of the fall. Was it worth the danger? You can see the photos and decide. For me though, the journey up was very much worth it. The nature views that the paths offered were just wholesome and inspiring.
